Khūrākī: A Celebration of Afghanistan in Pittsburgh

RealTime Interventions is thrilled and honored to be bringing Khūrākī, our culinary/theatrical celebration of Afghanistan, to CMU’s month-long Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration.

CMU’s Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion, the Center for the Arts in Society (CAS), the School of Drama, and others have come together to host a full production of RealTime’s theatrical work designed to challenge Americans’ perceptions about Afghanistan through telling the personal stories of a group of Afghan female refugees, while supporting them in starting a collectively-owned food business in Pittsburgh: Zafaron Afghan Cuisine.

On February 15th we’ll present the stories of these five Afghan women, with Afghan food cooked by their business Zafaron and accompanying live music. Afghan food will be available for both the livestream (pickup at noon) and the live show (served after the show) on a first-come, first-served basis.

Then on February 17th, Lives Uprooted: A Panel on the Transition in Afghanistan will feature discussion of the military transition in Afghanistan in late August 2021, Pittsburgh’s status as one of 19 welcoming communities to new Afghan families, and what you can do to help these new residents feel more at home.
