Acclaimed jazz pianist Christian Sands is one of the most in-demand pianists working in jazz. For his stunning Grammy-nominated album, Be Water (2021), Sands took inspiration from water’s tranquility and power and mused on the possibilities offered by echoing its fluidity and malleability. The music of Be Water flows with the same mesmerizing tranquility and awesome power of its namesake.
On tour this spring with a quartet, the 32-year-old pianist has already enjoyed a remarkable career, touring and recording with Christian McBride’s Inside Straight Trio.
This special ticketed event follows a free performance by the Dr. Alton Merrell Quartet as part of the Trust’s weekly BNY Mellon presents JazzLive series, 5-7 pm, and concludes a month-long celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. The Trust will present the 2022 JazzLive Legacy Award, which recognizes an artist to honor their legacy and contribution to the Pittsburgh jazz scene.
